Our Story

Studio Mimico was born from a deep love for capturing life's most precious moments. We believe that the first days, weeks, and months of a new life deserve to be documented with the same care, tenderness, and artistry that parents bring to every moment with their little ones.

Our name, Mimico, reflects our approach — we mimic the gentle, loving environment that babies need to feel safe and content. Every session is designed around your baby's comfort, with warm temperatures, soft lighting, and patient, unhurried timing.

Located in Boralesgamuwa, our studio is a tranquil retreat where families can relax, bond, and create memories that will be treasured for generations. We are not just photographers; we are parents, caregivers, and artists who understand the profound significance of these fleeting moments.

Your Baby's Safety

We take newborn safety incredibly seriously. Our photographer has completed specialized training in newborn photography safety and posing techniques. We never use forced positions or uncomfortable setups.

What this means for you:

  • A parent or assistant is always within arm's reach during poses
  • Studio temperature is kept warm and comfortable (around 26-28°C)
  • All props, blankets, and fabrics are sanitized between sessions
  • We follow your baby's cues and never rush or force positions
  • Feeding and comfort breaks are built into every session
  • Composite images are used for any poses that require extra support

What safety measures do you follow for newborns?

Safety is our top priority. Our photographer is trained in newborn safety and posing. We never force babies into positions - all poses look natural because they are. A parent or assistant is always within arm’s reach. Our studio maintains comfortable temperatures and uses sanitized props and fabrics.

Where is Studio Mimico located in Colombo?

Our boutique photography studio is in Raththanapitiya, Boralesgamuwa — just 30 minutes from central Colombo and easily accessible from Nugegoda, Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia, and Maharagama. The full address and Google Maps directions are available on our Contact page.

Is parking available at the studio?

Yes — free private parking is available right outside the studio for clients. Just let us know in advance if you are coming with multiple cars so we can reserve space for your family.

Do you offer on-location or outdoor photography in Sri Lanka?

Our newborn and milestone sessions are studio-based for safety and consistency, but maternity and family sessions can be photographed on location across the Western Province — including beaches in Mount Lavinia, parks in Colombo, and private homes. On-location bookings include a travel surcharge.

How much does a newborn photography session cost in Sri Lanka?

Our newborn sessions start from packages that include the session fee, edited digital images, and an online gallery. Prices vary by package and add-ons — see our Packages page for current LKR pricing. We also offer flexible payment plans and gift vouchers.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfers to our local Sri Lankan account and all major credit and debit cards. A 50% deposit secures your booking, and the balance is due on the day of your session.

Do you offer gift vouchers for photography sessions?

Yes! Gift vouchers make a wonderful present for expecting parents, new grandparents, or family milestones. Vouchers are valid for 12 months and can be redeemed against any session type or package. Contact us to purchase.

What ages are best for baby milestone sessions?

We recommend milestone sessions at three classic ages: 3–4 months (tummy time and smiles), 6–8 months (sitter session — once baby can sit unassisted), and 12 months (cake smash or first birthday). Each captures a beautifully distinct stage of your baby’s first year.

When is the best time for a maternity photoshoot?

The sweet spot for maternity photography is between 28 and 34 weeks — your bump is beautifully round, and you are still comfortable enough to move and pose with ease. We can guide you on timing once you book.

What languages are spoken during the session?

Our team is fluent in English, Sinhala, and Tamil. We will conduct your session in whichever language makes you and your family most comfortable.
